My Picks for the WTA Season Ending Championship Finals

October 31st, 2009

At the this years season ending championships there has been a lot of drama going on especially in the bottom group also called the White Group. Dinara Safina was unable to play due to her injury so Vera Zvonareva took her place. Then unfortunately Zvonereva got injuried so Agnieszka Radwanska took her place. Safina’s spot  has been filled twice, which is quite rare.

With that being said, Serena Williams takes the no.1 seed from Dinara Safina due to the fact that Serena only had to last 1 round longer. Since Safina was unable to play and Serena won her first match against Svetlana Kuznetsova, Serena automatically took the top spot.

On her route to the Semi-Finals Serena has played Svetlana Kuznetsova, her siter Venus, and Elena Dementieva and beat all of them. Serena is very focused in Doha, it seems that she wants to prove not only to everyone but to herself that there should be no doubt why she is the number 1 player. She has sure convinced me! I pick Serena to be in the Finals. » Read more: My Picks for the WTA Season Ending Championship Finals

Defending Champion Venus loses First Round

October 28th, 2009

-TennisCentre News Room

Today Elena Dementieva beat the Defending Champ Venus Williams 3-6 7-6 6-2 in the first round of the WTA Championships in Doha. Both players traded sets and it came down to third round to decided who would win. Demetieva had a little trouble controlling her serve in the first two sets contributing 15 double faults to the American. This did not break her down mentally, as she ended the match with an exciting backhand winner at the net.

Men’s Tennis: Suddenly is Getting More Entertaining

ATP log

Change Is Coming

It all started when Robin Soderling defeated Rafael Nadal at the French Open then following  that Andy Roddick took Roger Federer to 5 sets at Wimbledon this year. After those tournaments took place something happened that hasn’t happened in a while, men’s tennis suddenly became more exicing to watch. The reason why I say this is because players on the ATP tour are starting to really play well. It isn’t the Federer and Nadal show anymore. Other players are starting to make guest appearances and I like it. » Read more: Men’s Tennis: Suddenly is Getting More Entertaining

Don’t Ever Give Up

Follow Your Dreams

This blog post is for people who want to play at a college level or professional level. There seems to be a misconception about this,  i’ve read in a couple forums were young teens are asking for advice from other users on whether or not they have a chance at becoming a pro. Some people are just ruthless and basically tearing them to shreds when all they were looking for was a little encouragement. My answer to that question is yes you can become a professional player. If you work hard and it’s really something you want to do you can go far. There are many pro players who started out in the satellites and worked their way up to the big tournaments. Satellite tournaments are basically lower level tournaments where pro’s play to get a feel for the professional environment and get some matches in . It also helps them get their ranking up so they can get a better chance of getting wild cards into tournaments instead of having to play the qualifiers. There are baby steps you can take to make it into the big leagues. » Read more: Don’t Ever Give Up

New Start For James Blake

Recently American player James Blake decided to part ways with his long time coach and good friend Brian Barker. This two have been together for over 15 years. So over time you can only imagine how close they have become over the years.

It’s not like we’re ending our relationship,” Blake said. “We’re still good friends, which will never change. If things go well with him, everyone’s happy. Brian wants nothing but the best for me. If they don’t, then I will go back to Brian and we know there’s a reason I’m back. » Read more: James Blake: A New Ending And Beginning

And So The Battle Continues

October 15th, 2009

Serena WilliamsSerena’s Fate For Next Season

Serena seems to be a very hot topic in women’s tennis lately. Just when you thought the chaos and drama from the US Open are over they come back with something else. Serena was fined $10,000 which she paid and said she was sorry not only in her press conferences but also in her other interviews. Serena also gave an open apology to the the fans after her doubles win with her sister Venus Williams. Patrick McEnroe tried to poke at her a little bit, but big sis was there to save the day. The fans were booing Patrick for putting Serena on the spot. Venus said in her doubles press conference, “well basically the crowd was booing Patrick, so I was trying to help him out.” » Read more: And So The Battle Continues

Safina is still top dog

October 15th, 2009

Why Is Safina Still No. 1

It’s a question that i’ve ask myself time and time again. Safina isn’t what you would call your typical No.1 player. I say this because she hasn’t really done anything to prove that she should be the number one player in the world. I understand you can’t win everything but when it is time for her to show the everyone why she is at the top, she comes up short. » Read more: Safina is still top dog

A Rising Star

Melanie Oudin

America’s new hope

Americans get asked all the time why aren’t we producing any tennis players. We have a great foundation for tennis the USTA. But we aren’t getting any results. But maybe those questions can be put on hold for a while because Melanie Oudin stepped on to the scene this year making a splash at the Wimbledon defeating top seed Jelena Jankovic and recently defeating top seeds Elena Dementieva, Maria Sharapova, and Nadia Petrova to reach the US Open Semi-Finals. The last person to accomplish such a feat so young was Serena Williams. » Read more: A Rising Star
